Newton Downs St. A, S. Central, Altamont Win In Softball

NEWTON -- Newton struck early and downed Effingham St. Anthony 4-2 in high school softball action Tuesday.

The Eagles tallied single runs in the first three innings. St. Anthony pulled within 3-2 in the third but Newton finished out with a run in the sixth.

St. Anthony mustered only three hits against winning pitcher Kayla Kocher. Kocher went the distance allowing two runs on the three hits, one walk while striking out nine.

Newton had five hits in the contest led by Addy O'Dell with two singles. Lilly Kessler had a single and drove in a run. Kocher and Bailee Frichtl had a single each.

The Bulldogs were led by Addie Wernsing with a home run and two RBI. Madeline Kibler and Cameran Rios had a single each.

At St. Elmo

South Central came calling and handed St. Elmo/Brownstown a 12-1 loss in five innings via the 10-run rule Tuesday.

The Cougars had a three-run second, scored two in the third, three in the fourth and finished out with four in the fifth. St. Elmo/Brownstown's lone run came in the fourth.

South Central again had big hitting with 12 in the contest. Taegan Webster had a double, triple and drove in two runs, Kaitlyn Swift had a single, two doubles and an RBI, Lily Malone a single, home run and two RBI and Kyra Swift a single, doube and two RBI.

T. Webster threw the three-hitter.

Getting singles for St. Elmo/Brownstown were Kairi Speagle, Kelly Moss and Dezerae Morlan.

South Central improved to 2-1 in the National Trail Conference and 8-4 overall.

At Altamont

Altamont had an easy time against Ramsey as the Indians won 16-1 in four innings Tuesday.

Altamont tallied four in the first, six in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth.

Grace Lemke threw a one-hitter and struck out 10 in the victory on the mount.

The Indians banged out 12 hits in the contest and were aided by 12 Ramsey errors.

Lanie Tetrick had a double, triple and an RBI for the winners while Brianna Grunloh had a single, double and an RBI. Allie McManaway and Adria Denton had two singles each. McManaway added an RBI. Bailey Teasley and Juliana Berg had a double and an RBI each. Lemke had a single and two RBI.

At Altamont

At Dieterich

Robinson stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead then had a 12-run fourth and went on for a 14-4 win over Dieterich in five innings Tuesday.

Dieterich tallied two runs in the fourth and two in the fifth behind eight hits. But the Maroons committed six errors.

Kaitlyn Boerngen had three singles for Dieterich while Marli Michl had a single, double and an RBI.

Robinson had 10 hits in the contest. Paige Sanders threw the eight-hitter allowing no walks and striking out six.
