EHS Drops DH, Dieterich, S.C. Splits, T-town, Altamont Nab Softball Wins

MAHOMET -- Effingham High School fell in an Apollo Conference softball doubleheader to Mahomet-Seymour Saturday.

The Bulldogs won the opener 10-0 in five innings. Mahomet-Seymour took a 4-0 opening inning lead, added on a run in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth.

Effingham had four hits, all singles, by Grace Bushur, Abby Cunningham, Sidney Donaldson and Tori Budde.

Mahomet-Seymour banged out seven extra base hits, four doubles and three home runs.

In the second contest, Mahomet-Seymour tallied an 11-6 victory behind a 12-hit attack.

The Hearts held a 6-4 lead until the fifth when the Bulldogs scored seven runs.

Effingham was led in hitting by Jennifer Jamison with a single, home run and two RBI, Bushur with two singles and two RBI and Riley Cunningham with two singles.

At Dieterich

Dieterich split Saturday victories.

The Movin' Maroons won over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 8-5. Dieterich stepped out to a 4-1 opening inning lead, tacked on three in the third and a single run in the fourth.

CHBC outhit Dieterich by a 12-7 count. The Maroons were led by Estella Meinhart with a single, double and an RBI and Lucie Jansen with a triple and an RBI.

CHBC was led by Honora Reed with a single, double and two RBI, Ruby Stuckemeyer a single and double, Macee Rodman two singles and two RBI and Koda Colman two singles and an RBI. Birgern Schlanser added two singles.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis trailed Mount Zion 3-1 until the bottom of the fifth then broke loose, scoring all nine runs for a 9-5 win Friday.

The Wooden Shoes were outhit by an 11-5 count but the Braves finished with three errors.

Erin Althoff had a single, triple and drove in three runs for the Shoes while Emily Konkel had a triple and three RBI.

Courtney Gibson got the win on the mound going the final four innings, allowing eight hits, four walks and striking out four.

At Altamont

Altamont produced 10 hits and claimed an 8-3 win over Vandalia Saturday.

The Indians edged out to a 2-1 opening inning lead then had a four-run third and finished out with two in the sixth.

Altamont had 10 hits led by Claire Boehm with three singles and an RBI. Hitting a double and driving in a run each were Peyton Osteen, Bailey Teasley and Gracie Lemke.

Lemke picked up the pitching victory, going all seven innings. Lemke kept Vandalia batters off balance and struck out 15 in the contest. She allowed three runs on four hits and four walks.

At Kinmundy

South Central split victories Saturday in its own tournament.

In the first game, South Central defeated New Athens, 9-3..

The Cougars broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run third then tallied four in the fourth and one in the sixth.

South Central had 15 hits led by Kyra Swift with two singles, a double and two RBI, Lily Malone with a single, double and two RBI, Ella Watwood with a single, double and an RBI, Taegan Webster and Kaitlyn Swift with a single and double each and Laney Webster with two singles and an RBI.

In the second contest, Woodlawn defeated Cumberland, 5-3.

Cumberland then won over New Athens 4-2.

In the final contest, Woodlawn downed South Central 13-3 in five innings. Woodlawn held a 4-1 lead after three then had a nine-run fifth.

Kaitlyn Swift had two singles and Malone a double and an RBI.

South Central is now 7-4 on the season and returns to action Tuesday at St. Elmo/Browntown.

At Newton

Newton hosted a junior varsity round robin Saturday.

On Field One, Newton defeated Mount Carmel 11-4. Fairfield won over Mount Carmel, 5-4. Newton blanked Fairfield, 4-0.

On Field Two, Teutopolis downed Robinson, 13-5; Robinson won over Paris, 8-7 and Paris defeated T-town, 13-1.

Newton went 2-0 on the season while Teutopolis was 1-1 and Fairfield was 1-1. Mount Carmel finshed 0-2.
