St. Anthony, Windsor/Stew-Stras Nab Softball Wins

Effingham St. Anthony High School edged out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning then went on to score eight more runs for a 9-2 victory over Charleston in softball Wednesday.

The Bulldogs had eight hits in the contest led by Cameran Rios with a single and double, Lucy Fearday with two singles and an RBI, Anna Faber with two singles and two RBI and Abbie Hatton with a double and two RBI.

Lucy Fearday was the winner on the mound. Fearday went all seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, two walks while striking out six.

Charleston was led in hitting by Karah Moore with a single and double, Blair Ritchey with two singles and Clara Cox with a double.

The Bulldogs improved to 9-1 on the season and are back in action Friday playing host to Freeburg at 4:30 p.m.

At Sullivan

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg banged out 11 hits and claimed an 8-3 win over Sullivan Wednesday.

The Hatchets stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead. Sullivan came back with two runs in the fourth but WSS scored three in the top of the fifth and held a 6-3 lead after six innings. Windsor/Stew-Stras then put the contest on ice with two runs in the seventh.

Karlie Bean had two singles, a triple and drove in three runs for the Hatchets. Ella Kinkelaar had three singles while Ava Richards had two singles and three RBI. Gabby Vonderheide contributed a single and an RBI and Natalie Hayes and Kaylyn Carey had a single each.

Bean picked up the pitching win with 14 strikeouts recorded. She allowed three runs on seven hits and one walk.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg improved to a perfect 6-0 on the season. The Hatchets go right back at it today traveling to face Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond.
