St. Anthony claimed the championship of the Rantoul Softball Tournament during the weekend.

RANTOUL -- Effingham St. Anthony High School claimed the championship of the Rantoul Softball Tournament Saturday.

The Bulldogs blanked Villa Grove in Friday action, 13-0.then came back with three wins Saturday.

In Friday's contest, the Bulldogs banged out 12 hits and took the early lead and never looked back in the 13-0 win over Villa Grove.

Haley Niebrugge had a double, triple and three RBI while Abbie Hatton had two singles and drove in three runs. Lucy Fearday had two singles and two RBI while Addie Wernsing and Anna Faber had two singles each. Sydney Kibler contributed a single and an RBI and Cameran Rios an RBI.

Fearday held Villa Grove to three hits, didn't allow a walk and struck out five.

The Bulldogs then swept through the three Saturday contests.

St. Anthony won over Grant Community, 10-2. The Bulldogs broke a 1-1 opening inning tie with a three-run second and added on six more runs in the third.

S. Kibler threw a four-hitter with four walks and eight strikeouts for the win.

Rios had a single, home run and an RBI while Niebrugge had a double and triple. Faber two singles, Hatton a double, Stacie Vonderheide a triple and Wernsing a double. Fearday and S. Kibler had a single and drove in a run each.

The Bulldogs then faced Bradley-Bourbonnais and was a 5-2 winner.

Bradley Bourbonnais stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead. St. Anthony tallied a run in the third and tied the score in the fourth. The Bulldogs then moved ahead with a three-run fifth.

Rios hit a solo home run while Wernsing added a triple and Madeline Kibler had a double and an RBI. S. Kibler had a single and an RBI and Niebrugge added an RBI.

Fearday went the five innings on the mound allowing two runs on five hits, four walks while striking out 10.

In the final game of the tourney, St. Anthony blanked Pekin, 15-0 in four innings.

The Bulldogs ran out to a 6-0 first inning lead, had a two-run second and a seven-run third.

St. Anthony's offense continued to roll with 10 hits. M. Kibler had a single, home run and two RBI, Fearday a single, triple and two RBI, Niebrugge, a single, double and two RBI, Wernsing a triple and an RBI and Hatton a double and two RBI.

Fearday picked up her third win on the mound for the tourney. She went four innings allowing two hits, no walks while striking out eight.
