Effingham St. Anthony picked up an 8-4 victory over Olney in high school softball competition Monday.

The Bulldogs held a 3-0 first inning lead then had two-run innings in the third and seventh around one in the fifth.

Both teams had six hits but Olney commited five errors.

St. Anthony was led by Madeline Kibler with a single, triple and two RBI and Sydney Kibler with a triple and two RBI.

Lucy Fearday threw six innings for the win on the mound. She allowed two runs on three hits, one walk while striking out five.

At Brownstown

Marli Michl had all the right stuff on Monday as Dieterich High School blanked St. Elmo/Brownstown, 13-0.

Michl went five innings allowing no runs on one hit, one walk and six strikeouts.

The Movin' Maroons, meanwhile, banged out 12 hits in the contest and was aided by six St. Elmo/Brownstown errors.

Michl helped her own cause with a single, home run and two RBI. Kaitlyn Boerngen added two doubles and two RBI while Estella Meinhart had a single and double, Courtney  Brummer a double and an RBI, Jadeyn Pruemer a double and Ruby Westendorf two singles. Breanna Shull and Megan Bierman added a single and an RBI each and Eva Meinhart had an RBI.

St. Elmo/Brownstown's lone hit was a single by Jayna Ireland.

At Neoga

Newton pounded out 10 hits and downed Neoga, 16-2 in five innings Monday.

The Eagles edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead then had a four run third, a four run fourth and finished out with six in the fifth.

Ava Kessler hit the long ball with two home runs and four RBI. Addy O'Dell had three singles and three RBI while Kayla Kocher and Amber Russell had a triple each. Russell had two RBI. Lexie Grove and Morgan White had a double each.

Neoga had three hits, all singles by Andrea Burcham, Audrey Kepp and Avery Fearday.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg tallied a 16-0 win over Flora in four innings Monday.

Neither team scored in the first but once the Hatchets got unwound, they were off, scoring a single run in the second, then seven in the third and eight in the fourth.

WSS had 19 hits led by Sam Hayes with a single, home run and five RBI, Karlie Bean three singles, a double and three RBI, Ella Kinkelaar, a single, double and two RBI, Gabby Vonderheide, a single, double and two  RBI, Maddy Pfeiffer two singles and two RBI, Ava Richards two singles and an RBI and Natalie Hayes two singles.

Bean picked up the win on the mound, going four innings, allowing one hit, no walks while striking out seven.

At Flora

At Mulberry Grove

South Central came calling and picked up a 12-3 victory over Mulberry Grove Monday.

The Cougars had a two-run second, a four-run fourth, tacked on two more in the fifth, three in the sixth and finished out with one in the seventh.

Brooklyn Garrett had a double, home run and three RBI for the winners. Laney Webster had a solo home run. Lily Malone added a single, double and three RBI, Kaitlyn Swift a double and an RBI, Taegan Webster two singles and an RBI and Ella Watwood a single and two RBI.

The game was the season opener for the Cougars.

Teutopolis took the early lead but Salem came back with four runs in the bottom of the sixth then held the Wooden Shoes scoreless in the seventh for the 10-9 win Monday.

The Shoes tallied two in the first, two in the second and one in the top of the third for a 5-0 lead. But the Wildcats came right back with five in the bottom of the third to tie the score. Both teams scored a single run in the fourth. T-town moved ahead with one in the fifth and two in the sixth for a 9-6 lead but Salem tallied four in the bottom of the sixth.

The Wooden Shoes outhit Salem by a 13-10 count. Emily Konkel had a single, double, home run and two RBI while Erin Althoff had two singles, a double and an RBI, Daisha Piedra a single, double and an RBI, Estella Mette a solo home run and Danielle Sarchet and Courtney Gibson a double each. Kaylee Niebrugge added a single and two RBI.

The Warriors had a 16-run first inning and tacked on four more in the second.

Morgan Hance had two hits for N.C./Clay City while Leah Cartright and Kirstin Allen had one hit and one RBI each.

North Clay/Clay City is now 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in the Midland Trail Conference.
