Bulldogs Claim Softball Victory, Area Roundup

With an eight run inning, Effingham St. Anthony ended its high school softball game with a 10-run rule victory over Robinson Tuesday, 10-0.

The Bulldogs held a 2-0 first inning lead then had the big eight-run fourth to finish the contest.

St. Anthony banged out 12 hits in the game. Anna Faber led the way with a single, triple and three RBI while Stacie Vonderheide added a single and double. Cameran Rios hit a solo home run. Lucy Fearday chipped in with two singles and drove in two runs while Haley Niebrugge added two singles..

Sydney Kibler was the winner on the mound, going all five innings, allowing no runs on three hits, three walks while striking out eight.

The  Bulldogs are now 1-1 on the season and will be back in action Saturday playing host to a round robin that includes Paris and Okaw Valley.

At St. Anthony

At Carlyle

Altamont dropped a 3-2 decision to Carlyle in its season opener Tuesday.

Carlyle edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead but Altamont tied in the top of the third. Carlyle then tied in the bottom of the frame and moved ahead 3-1 in the sixth.

The Indians made a comeback bid, scoring a run in the top of the seventh but fell short.

P. Osteen had two singles and an RBI for Altamont while G. Lemke had a double.

B. Teasley threw a six-hitter with no walks and eight strikeouts for the tough-luck loss on the mound.

At Carlyle

At Marshall

Dieterich watched this game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 10-0 loss to Marshall Tuesday.

Marshall took a 3-0 opening inning lead, tacked on four in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth.

The Movin' Maroons had only two hits in the contest, singles by Ella Kreke and Eva Meinhart.

Marshall tallied nine hits and did not commit an error. Dieterich had three errors.

At St. Elmo

Clay City/North Clay handed St. Elmo/Brownstown a 15-2 loss Tuesday.

Kirstin Allen threw a two-hitter over five innings, allowing two walks and striking out six.

Clay City/North Clay had 12 hits in the contest. Allen had two doubles, a triple and three RBI while Morgan Hance had three singles and three RBI and Leah Cartright two doubles and three RBI

The game was the season opener for Clay City/North Clay.
