EHS Edges Altamont; Area Roundup

Altamont High School took a quick 3-1 first inning lead but couldn't hold on as Effingham's Ciara Kronewitter hit a grand slam in the fifth inning and the Hearts edged Altamont 5-4 in softball action Monday evening.
Deedra Myers had two singles, Kelli Utz a double and Shelby Nunamaker two singles for the Hearts.
Altamont was led by Ledbetter with a single, home run and two RBI and Northrup with two singles and an RBI.
Kronewitter also was the winning pitcher, throwing a six-hitter with no walks and eight strikeouts to improve to 2-4.

At Neoga
Neoga tallied a 5-1 victory in opening round play of the National Trail Conference Tournament over Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick Monday evening.
BCCH held a 1-0 lead until the second when Neoga knotted the score. The Indians then had a two-run fourth and a two-run sixth.
BCCH outhit Neoga 8-6 as Amanda Pierce, Hannah Wehrle and Haven Lorton had two singles each. Neoga was led by Roderick and Posten with two singles each.
Neoga advances to face top-seeded Altamont Wednesday at 4 p.m. Other contests Wednesday feature Dieterich at Stewardson-Strasburg, St. Elmo/Brownstown at Windsor and South Central at Effingham St. Anthony. All games begin at 4 p.m.

At Shelbyville
With a 4-2 lead in the top of the fourth, Teutopolis looked like it was on the way to a victory over Shelbyville. However, the Rams came back with four runs in the bottom of the inning then had an eight-run fifth for a 14-5 victory.
T-town had seven hits in the contest but committed six errors. Swingler had three singles and an RBI while Borries had a single and triple.
Shelbyville improves to 16-3 on the season.

At Newton
Newton handed Robinson an 8-3 loss in Little Illini Conference play Monday.
The score was tied at 2-2 after the first inning. The Eagles took a 3-2 lead in the third but Robinson tied in the top of the fourth. Newton then had a four-run bottom of the frame and went on for the win.
Hardiek picked up the pitching win. Swingler had a single, home run and drove in four runs while McCoy had a single, home run and an RBI.
