Neoga Finishes Fourth, EHS Fifth At Robinson Tournament

ROBINSON -- Neoga claimed fourth place while Effingham was fifth out of eight teams at the Robinson Softball Tournament Saturday.
The Indians played Hutsonville/Palestine to a 4-4 tie because of the time limit. Neoga led 4-2 until the fifth when Hutsonville/Palestine scored two runs to knot the score.
In the second contest, Robinson claimed a 6-1 win over Neoga. The Maroons took a 4-0 first inning lead and never looked back.
In the third game, Neoga downed South Central 7-2. Neece picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with one walk and three strikeouts. Neece also had two singles, a double and an RBI while Jean had two singles and an RBI and Albin three singles and an RBI.
Neoga then fell to Red Hill (Bridgeport) 12-3 to finish fourth. The Indians are 5-8-1 on the season.
Effingham lost its opener to Red Hill 8-3. Red Hill held a 2-1 lead until the fifth then broke the game open with six runs. Kelly Utz had a single and a double for the Hearts while Brandy Pontious had two singles and a double.
In the second game, Effingham defeated Olney 6-4. The Hearts had 10 hits in the contest while Olney had six errors. Utz and Deedra Myers had a single and a double each. Utz drove in one run while Myers had two RBI.
The Hearts then lost to Carbondale 9-0. Sears pitched a perfect no-hitter for Carbondale.
EHS then defeated Hutsonville/Palestine 12-1 in five innings via the 10-run rule. EHS had 15 hits in the contest led by Utz with three singles, Hope Collier, Kaylee Tonn and Ciara Kronewitter with two singles and an RBI each, Myers with a single, double and an RBI and Madison Weis with a single, grand slam home run and five RBI.
