Hearts Nab Doubleheader Over Paris, Bulldogs Fall; Area Roundup

Effingham High School bounced Paris in an Apollo Conference softball doubleheader Thursday evening.
EHS won the opener 2-1. Paris led 1-0 after five innings before the Hearts tallied two in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the win. Deedra Myers was the winning pitcher on a three-hitter with no walks and six strikeouts.
Kaylee Tonn and Brittany Beals had a double each for the Hearts. Beals added an RBI.
The Hearts won the second game 7-2. EHS trailed Paris 1-0 after the first inning but came back to take the lead with a two-run third and finished off the game with a five-run fifth. Ciara Kronewitter pitched the win, throwing a three-hitter, allowing two runs, four walks and striking out six.
Brandy Pontious had the only extra base hit for the Hearts with a double and an RBI. Kelli Utz chipped in with two singles.

At Altamont
Altamont scored early and quick in taking an 11-6 win over Effingham St. Anthony. The Indians tallied two in the first and six in the second.
Deidre Ledbetter pitched the win allowing eight hits, one walk and six strikeouts. Altamont had 10 hits in the contest led by Ledbetter with two singles, a double and three RBI and Lauren Ohnesorge with two singles and two RBI.
St. Anthony was led by Makayla Walsh with a single, triple and four RBI, Paige Koester with two singles and Kate Richards a triple.

Stewardson-Strasburg picked up a National Trail Conference win over Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick, 12-1 in five innings.
Stew-Stras led 7-1 after three innings then had a five-run fifth. The Comets banged out 12 hits in the contest and was aided by six BCCH errors.
Knop had a single, double and an RBI for the winners while Ferris had a single, home run and two RBI and Slifer a single, double and two RBI.
BCCH was led by Autumn Riley with two singles. The Eagles drop to 0-4 in the NTC, 1-8 overall.

The Wooden Shoes had 10 hits in the contest led by K. Borries with a double, triple and an RBI, A. Apke with a triple and an RBI and J. Wente with a triple. K. Borries pitched three innings for the win allowing one hit, one walk and striking out five.
S. Calhoun led SE/B with a double and an RBI.

Lindsay Floyd improved her pitching record to 9-6, allowing four hits, two walks and striking out 13. Danielle Bell went four-for-four with three singles and three RBI while Floyd had a single, two doubles and five RBI.

Kyle Thornton had three singles and drove in four runs for the winners. Taylor Layton had a single, double and three RBI. The Pirates are 9-5 overall.
