Cumberland Beats Olney In LIC Play

Cumberland edged Olney 7-6 in Little Illini Conference girls softball action Wednesday.

Olney took a 2-0 first inning lead and led 3-0 until the fourth when the Pirates tied the score in the top of the inning. Olney came back to regain the lead with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Cumberland pulled within 5-4 in the sixth and took a 7-5 lead in the top of the seventh. Olney attempted a comeback in the bottom of the inning but fell a run short.

Both teams had 10 hits in the contest. Poe led Cumberland with two singles, a home run and three RBI while Seibert had two singles and an RBI. Carlen picked up the pitching win, going four innings, allowing four hits, no walks and striking out two.
