Effingham Junior High School advanced in the opening round of the Class 3A Charleston Softball Regional with a victory Wednesday.

The Mustangs stepped out to a 4-1 lead on Mattoon and went on for a 9-3 win.

EJHS had 10 hits led by Natalie Armstrong with three singles, Ryley Engel with a triple and three RBI, Alyssa Martin with a double and an RBI and Ina Mapes with a triple. Tessa Raddatz added a single and an RBI.

Armstrong picked up the win on the mound. She went all seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits, three walks while striking out 12.

Mattoon also aided the Mustangs' cause with seven errors.

Effingham, seeded fourth, will now take on top-seeded Charleston at 10 a.m. Saturday. In the other game Saturday, second-seeded Monticello faces third-seeded Tolono Unity at noon. The championship is scheduled Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Class 2A Teutopolis Regional

Teutopolis advanced in its own Class 2A Regional Wednesday.

The Wooden Shoes blanked Altamont, 10-0 in five innings. T-town had three runs in the first, four in the second, one in the third and ended it in the fifth with two.

Alyssa Tipton struck out 11, allowing only one walk and two hits in the win on the mound.

The Shoes had six hits led by Malea Helmink with two singles and four RBI and Mallory Bloemer with two singles and three RBI.

Altamont's Laila Hankins had a double and Ella Nelson a single.

T-town now meets top-seeded Jasper County at 10 a.m. Saturday.

In the second game, South Central downed Clay City/North Clay, 10-2.

South Central held a 1-0 opening inning lead and Clay City/North Clay tied in the top of the second. The Falcons came back with two in the second, four in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth.

South Central had 11 hits led by Jamalyn Logan with two singles, a double and two RBI, Percilla Reid with a triple and three RBI and Emily Rose with two singles and an RBI.

KInlee Thompson threw a three-hitter for the win.

South Central improved to 15-4 and will now face Cumberland at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Cumberland claimed a 16-1 victory over Vandalia Wednesday.

The winners of Saturday's games will meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for the championship.

Class 2A Teutopolis Regional

Class 2A Macon Meridian Regional

Macon Meridian and Pana claimed victories in the first round of this regional Wednesday.

Macon Meridian defeated Sullivan, 12-5 while Pana downed Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hamond, 8-2.

Macon Meridian will now face Shelbyville Moulton at 10 a.m. Saturday followed by Pana taking on Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at noon.

The winners then advance to the title contest Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

 

Class 1A Hutsonville Regional

Dieterich broke a 0-0 standoff with a five-run third then tallied six to end the game in the fifth via the 10-run rule Wednesday, 11-1.

Dieterich's C. Faller threw a one-hitter wtih four walks and six strikeouts for the win. A. Boerngen came on to finish out the final inning.

K. Michl had a double, home run and an RBI for the winners while L. Meinhart had two doubles, Faller two singles and two RBI, Huber and K. Will had a triple and an RBI each, C. Goebel a single and two RBI and A. Uthell a single and an RBI.

Dieterich now faces Paris Crestwood Saturday at 4 p.m.

Class 1A Brownstown/St. Elmo Regional

Ramsey and Brownstown/St. Elmo were opening round winners in this regional Wednesday.

In the opener, Ramsey ended Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's season with a 16-1 count.

CHBC took a 1-0 first inning lead. Ramsey tied in the second then tallied three in the third, one in the fourth and 11 in the fifth.

CHBC had three hits led by Averie Vaughn with two singles and Haley Doty with a double and an RBI. The Bobcats ended the season with a 2-15 record.

The second contest went to Brownstown/St. Elmo over Findlay Okaw Valley, 16-10.

Saturday's games feature Effingham St. Anthony, top seeded, taking on Ramsey at 10 a.m. followed by Assumption Central A&M, seeded second, against Brownstown/St. Elmo at 11:30 a.m.

The winners advance to the championship game Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
