Effingham St. Anthony edged Effingham, 7-6 in junior high softball competition Friday.

 

The Bullpups held a 3-1 lead in the first inning and led 7-4 after four. The Mustangs came back with single runs in the fifth and sixth only to fall short.

St. Anthony had six hits led by Liv Hoene with three singles and Cora Hartmann with two RBI. Mia Kinkelar had a single and an RBI.

Effingham was led by Alyssa Martin with a home run and two RBI, Natalie Armstrong with two singles and Ryley Engel and Maci Hayes with a double each. Camdyn Bergholzer had a single and an RBI.

Mia Kinkelaar picked up the pitching win, going all seven innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, three walks and two strikeouts.

At Vandalia

South Central picked up its 14th victory of the season by trouncing Vandalia, 19-1 in four innings Friday.

South Central had four run innings in the first and second, five in the third and six in the fourth.

Zoey Feldhake had a single, two doubles and two RBI for the winners. Kinlee Thiompson had a triple and three RBI, Amelia Montes two singles, a double and an RBI and Maddie Peddicord, Percilla Reid and Emily Rose two singles each. Reid had two RBI.

South Central is now 14-3 and returns to action today at Centralia.

In Friday competition, Teutopolis dropped a 12-2 loss to Robinson in five innings Friday.

The Wooden Shoes scored their two runs in the fourth inning after trailing 7-0.

T-town had three hits led by Olivia Kemme, Alyssa Tipton and Allie Ruholl with a single each. Jersey Gaddis had an RBI.

Casey-Westfield played host to Teutopolis Saturday and sent the Wooden Shoes home with a 7-2 loss.

Casey-Westfield had 10 hits in the contest while T-town had six. The Shoes had four errors.

Kylie Borries led T-town in hitting with two singles.

Shelbyville picked up a 16-1 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

Shelbyville took a 6-0 opening inning lead and ended the game in the third. Tucker threw a no-hitter for the winners.
