Mt. Carmel Scores Late to Defeat Shoes for Regional Championship

Mt. Carmel scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the Teutopolis Lady Shoes, 4-3, to capture their 2A Regional championship. The game at Mt. Carmel was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com 

With one out, a walk and a single put the tying and winning runs aboard. After a strikeout for the second out, back-to-back walks forced home the tying run and a base hit to left won the game for the Lady Aces.
 
The Shoes trailed until a three-run sixth inning. 
 
With one out, Shoes' pitcher Tia Probst hit a shot over the right center field fence to make it a 2-1 game. Estella Mette and Courtney Gibson then singled. An error scored Mette and a sacrifice by Erin Althoff brought home Gibson to give the Shoes the lead, 3-2.
 
Mt. Carmel had taken a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a two-run home run by Kami Pearson.
 
Teutopolis finishes its season with a 14-13 record. Mt. Carmel is now 20-2 and will play Tuesday in sectional semi-final action.
 
Probst went the distance for Teutopolis, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks, walking two, hitting two batters, and fanning seven.
