Hearts, Shoes Split Saturday Doubleheader

The Effingham Flaming Hearts and the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes split a Saturday doubleheader. Effingham won the opener 6-5 with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Teutopolis came back to win 12-6 in the nightcap.

In the opener, Teutopolis scored in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead and added a run in the fifth to make it 2-0. The Hearts scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 2-1.

Teutopolis scored three times in the top of the sixth to lead 5-1, but Effingham bounced back with three in their half of the inning to make it 5-4. Then came the two-run seventh that gave the Hearts the win.

Jaidi Davis went the distance for the win, allowing four earned runs on seven hits, walking four and striking out two. Tia Probst took the loss, also pitching the complete game, allowing six earned runs on eight hits, walking three and fanning four.

Effingham got home runs from Emma Hardiek and Riley Cunningham.

TEUTOPOLIS 12, EFFINGHAM 6

Teutopolis scored in the first, but Effingham scored five times in the bottom of the frame. Teutopolis, though, answered with six runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth before adding a run in the sixth. The Hearts scored in the seventh to account for the scoring.

Courtney Gibson went the distance for the win for Effingham, allowing five earned runs on five hits, walking six and striking out two. 

Riley Cunningham started the game and allowed 11 earned runs in 4-2/3 innings on seven hits and 10 walks while fanning three. Jaidi Davis got an out and gave up a hit. Taylor Armstrong pitched two innings and gave up an unearned run on three hits with a strikeout.
