DECATUR -- Effingham High School graduate Aly Armstrong will take the mound today for Millikin University as the Big Blue head into their first Division III NCAA Tournament since 1990.

Millikin is seeded No. 3 and will meet No. 4 Belhaven University from Jackson, Miss. at 2 p.m. today. In the opener, No. 1 DePaul University faces No. 6 Mount St. Joseph. The second game featuring No. 2 Geneva College against No. 5 Calvin College will not be contested as Calvin College advances after a no contest against Geneva.

The tournament will continue Friday at Workman Family Softball Field and finish out Saturday. Tickets are $5 per game and available at the gate.

Armstrong has been the go-to pitcher for the Big Blue. She has a 19-4 record, a 1.79 ERA and has registered 140 strikeouts in 156 innings. She led Millikin in the CCIW Tournament with back-to-back shutout victories. She was named Athlete of the Week this week for the Big Blue.

In 2019 she made 19 appearances and eight starts finishing with a 9-6 record and a 2.61 ERA and 76 strikeouts. In the COVID-shortened season in 2020, she pitched in eight games, six as a starter and had a 4-1 record. She was named CCIW All-Conference.

Armstrong not only has been a tough opponent on the mound but also has been an excellent student, graduating with a business management degree just last week and did it in three years. She took 21 credits this past semester to graduate early.

Mililkin is on a 10-game winning streak and sports a 30-9 record this season.
