Charleston Claims Doubleheader Over EHS; Area Roundup

Charleston came calling and handed Effingham an Apollo Conference doubleheader loss Saturday in girls softball action.

The Trojans won the opening game 12-9. Mariah Stewart pitched a six-hitter with five walks and six strikeouts.

Effingham was led by Brandy Pontious with a single, triple and an RBI, Brittany Beals with a double and two RBI and Shelby Nunamaker with a double and an RBI.

In the second game, Charleston was an 8-3 winner despite the fact the Hearts outhit the Trojans 14-6.

Courtney White had three singles and an RBI, Beals a single and double and Kelli Utz two singles, a home run and an RBI. The Hearts committed three errors in the contest.

Stewardson/Strasburg claimed a 9-1 victory over South Central. The Comets took a 3-0 first inning lead then had a three-run sixth.

Stew-Stras had 12 hits in the contest led by Courtney Schultz who went four-for-four with three singles, a triple and an RBI, Lindsay Burton had two singles and an RBI, Kennedy Ferris with a double, triple and two RBI and Kendall Knop with two singles. Stew-Stras is 2-2 on the season.

South Central was led by Gunnels with two singles.
