Altamont, S. Central Nab, Newton Softball Wins

Altamont High School blanked St. Elmo/Brownstown 10-0 in five innings of softball action Thursday.

 

The Indians put together an eight-hit attack and took advantage of four SEB errors. Altamont struck in the first inning, scoring three runs then had a three-run second and produced two runs each in the third and fourth innings.

Six of the eight hits were extra base hits. Kimberly Brummer led the way with a double, triple and drove in two runs. Abby Goeckner added a single, double and an RBI while Bailey Teasley had a triple and an RBI and Peyton Osteen and Ellie McManaway produced a double each.

Teasley went the five innings on the mound, allowing only one hit, a single by Putnam. She did not allow a walk and struck out 12.

At Altamont

At Kinmundy

South Central improved its record to 10-3 on the season with a 10-2 victory over Edwards County (Albion) Thursday.

Edwards County took a 2-0 first inning lead but the Cougars didn't stay down long.  South Central came back with a three-run second then had another three-run inning in the fifth and four in the sixth.

The hard-hitting Cougars banged out 15 hits in the game. Sydnee Garrett had a single and hit a solo homer. Laney Webster also had a solo home run. Lily Malone knocked out a single and two doubles while Brooklyn Garrett led the way with two singles, a double, triple and two RBI. Halle Smith added two singles.

Taegen Webster picked up the pitching win.

At Kinmundy

At Dieterich

Newton stepped out to the early lead and went on to beat Dieterich 12-0 in five innings Thursday.

The Eagles took a 1-0 first inning lead before scoring six in the second, then tacked on one in the fourth and four in the fifth.

Newton had 12 hits led by E. Kidwell with two singles, two doubles and five RBI, A. Kessler with two singles and a double, L. Grove with a single, double and two RBI and K. Kocher with a double and two RBI.

Kidwell threw a two-hitter for the win on the mound, with no walks and three strikeouts.

Dieterich's hits came from Cortney Brummer and Eva Meinhart with a single each.

At Dieterich

At Meridian

Meridian played host to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and sent the Hatchets home with a 4-1 loss Thursday.

Meridian edged out to a 1-0 lead in the opening inning then tacked on two in the third and finished out with one in the fifth.

The Hatchets' lone run came in the fourth.

Windsor/Stew-Stras had four hits led by Hannah Hayes with two singles. Karlie Bean added a single and an RBi and Makenna Tabor a single.

At Meridian
