Hearts Nab DH; Shoes, Maroons Cougars, Eagles Claim SB Wins

TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham High School handed Taylorville an Apollo Conference doubleheader softball loss Tuesday.

The Hearts had a 15-hit attack to win, 12-3.

EHS scored in all six innings and finished with eight of those 15 hits for extra bases. Riley Cuningham had a double and hit a solo home run while Emma Hardiek had a single, two doubles and drove in three runs. Grace Bushur had two singles, a double and an RBI. Jacy Boatman had a single, double and three RBI, Jaidi Davis a single, double and an RBI and Sawyer Althoff a double and two RBI.

Davis picked up the pitching win, going four innings, allowing three runs on five hits, three walks and six strikeouts.

The Hearts then ended the contest in five innings, 17-0. EHS held a 4-0 lead until the fifth then had a 13-run ininng.

EHS also had 17 hits to go with the 17 runs. Boatman had two singles, a double and two RBI, Davis, a single, double and three RBI, Armstrong a single, double and two RBI, Althoff with two singles and two RBI, Raegan Boone with two singles and an RBI, R. Cunningham with a double and an RBI and Bushur, Jennifer Jamison and Elena Niebrugge with a single and two RBI each, 

R. Cunningham threw a one-hitter with four walks and six strikeouts.

The Hearts improve to 4-2 in the Apollo Conference.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis claimed an Apollo Conference victory over Lincoln Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes held a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on two in the third and one in the sixth.

T-town had seven hits led by Erin Althoff with three singles, Tia Probst with a single, double and two RBI and Estella Mette with a single and an RBI.

Probst picked up the win on the mound going all seven innings, allowing one run on three hits, two walks while striking out eight.

At Dieterich

With 15 hits, Dieterich High School scored 16 runs to end the game against Ramsey in the fifth inning Tuesday, 16-4.

The Movin' Maroons took a 4-1 opening inning lead, led 5-4 after two then broke the game open with a six-run third and a four-run fourth.

Kaitlyn Boerngen and Cortney Brummer were the one-two hitting leaders for the Maroons with a single, double, home run and four RBI each. J. Pruemer had two doubles and two RBI, Eva Meinhart had a single, double and two RBI. Ruby Westendorf added two singles.

Pruemer went 1.2 innings for the win, allowing four runs on five hits, no walks and three strikeouts.

South Central pounded Webber Township (Bluford), 19-0 in four innings Tuesday.

The Cougars stepped out to an 18-0 first inning lead and had 14 hits. Kayli Swift had a home run and three RBI, Halle Smith three singles and an RBI, Meagan Smith and Laney Webster two singles and two RBI each and Brooklyn Garrett with a double and three RBI. 

Smith threw the two-hitter for the win on the mound.

South Central improves to 9-3 and returns to action Thursday against Edwards County (Albion).

Newton brought home six runs behind a 14-hit attack in downing Flora, 6-2 Tuesday.

The Eagles led 3-1 after the opening inning and 4-2 after three then had single runs in the fourth and sixth.

J. Parr had a single, double and three RBI while K. Kocher had two doubles and P. Kinder a single and triple. L. Grove had two singles and an RBI and E. Kidwell and L. Sowers two singles each.

Kocher took the win on the mound, allowing six hits, one walk and striking out five.
