Bulldogs, Indians, Maroons, Hatchets Nab Softball Victories

Effingham St. Anthony trailed South Central 4-0 until the sixth inning then came to life to tie the score, sending the game into extra innings in high school softball action Monday.

In the top of the eighth, the Bulldogs went on a scoring frenzy with 10 and finished out with a 14-8 win.

The Cougars took a 3-0 first inning lead then tallied one in the second. St. Anthony tied the score with four in the top of the sixth.

The Bulldogs had 15 hits in the game led by Madeline Kibler with a single, home run and three RBI, Haley Niebrugge with three singles and a double, Sydney Kibler with a single, double and four RBI, Grace Karolewicz with a single, triple and three RBI, Lucy Fearday with two singles and two RBI and Addie Wernsing with a single and an RBI. Cameron Rios added two singles.

South Central had eight hits led by Taegan Webster with a single, home run and three RBI, Halle Smith with three singles and two RBI and Sydnee Garrett with a double and two RBI. The Cougars drop to 2-1 in the National Trail Conference, 8-3 overall.

At Kinmundy

At Altamont

Both Altamont and Charleston went through five scoreless innings then tallied runs in the sixth Monday.

Charleston took a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth but the Indians came back with five in the bottom of the frame. The Trojans scored one in the seventh but Altamont pulled out a 5-3 victory.

The Indians had eight hits  led by Abby Goeckner with a single and triple, Brooke Runge with a triple and two RBI, Olivia Eckhardt with two singles and Macey Christy and Kendyl Schultz with a single and an RBI each.

Bailey Treasley went the distance, allowing three runs on seven hits, three walks while striking out 12.

At Altamont

At Dieterich

Dieterich tallied an easy 12-2 win over Neoga in five innings via the 10-run rule Monday.

The Movin' Maroons led 3-2 after the first inning then scored three in the third, two in the fourth and finished the contest with four in the fifth.

Dieterich banged out 12 hits led by Ruby Westendorf with a single, double, triple and four RBI, Madilyn Brummer two singles, a triple and an RBI, Kaitlyn Boerngen a single and double and J. Pruemer with a single, triple and an RBI.

Neoga had two hits, singles by Trista and O'Dell.

Pruemer picked up the win on the mound, going 3.1 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, no walks and three strikeouts.

At Dieterich

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg had an easy time by pounding Okaw Valley, 23-5 in four innings Monday.

The Hatchets had a big hitting game with 25. Karlie Bean had two doubles, a triple and four RBI while Ava Richards had a single, two doubles and two RBI, Maddy Pfeiffer three singles, a double and an RBI, Ella Kinkelaar two singles, a double and two RBI, Natalie Hayes four singles and four RBI, Hannah Hayes a single, double, triple and an RBI and Kaylynn Carey a triple and an RBI.

Meanwhile, Bean pitched two innings, allowing no runs on no hits, two walks and five strikeouts for the win. H. Hayes came on two finish the final two innings, allowing five runs on four hits, five walks and one strikeout.

At Newton

Paris broke a 0-0 tie with a three-run fourth and claimed a 9-5 win over Newton Monday.

The Eagles tied the score at 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth but the Tigers tallied four more in the seventh for the victory.

Newton had only three hits,  K. Kocher had a triple and an RBI while L. Grove had a double and an RBi.

K. Moore was the winning pitcher for Paris allowing five runs on three hits, four walks and eight strikeouts.
