Altamont, WSS, S.C., Newton Pick Up Softball Wins

ALTAMONT -- Altamont High School pounded out 15 hits producing 12 runs for a 12-0 win over Dieterich in a softball game heard on KJ Country 102.3 Monday.

The Indians tallied a single run in the second inning on a solo shot by Abby Goeckner. Altamont then pushed that to 2-0 in the third inning on a triple by Bailey Teasley. Macey Christy singled Teasley home and Christy came home on a single by Kim Brummer.

Dieterich went up and down through two innings before Eva Meinhart singled in the second. The only other baserunner for the Maroons was Madilynn Brummer who drew a walk in the fourth.

Altamont then put the contest totally away with a 10-run fourth, batting around in the frame.

The Indians finished with 15 hits in the game. Taylor Mette had a double, triple and an RBI, Teasley a single, two triples and an RBI, Christy two singles, a double and two RBI, Abby Goeckner two singles, a home run and two RBI. Olivia Eckhardt two singles and two RBI and Kim Brummer a triple and an RBI.

Teasley picked up the win on the mound, going all five innings, allowing one hit, one walk while striking out 10.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony took a 2-1 first inning lead but Charleston came back to rally with a three-run seventh to pull out a 4-2 win Monday.

The Trojans had nine hits in the contest led by A. McPeak with two singles, R. McGahey with two singles and two RBI, A. Stephens with two singles and an RBI and K. Moore with two singles.

St. Anthony had four hits led by Haley Niebrugge with a single, double and an RBI.

K. Moore was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits, three walks and striking out six.

At Teutopolis

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg scored all three of its runs in the second inning then held off Teutopolis for a 3-2 victory Monday.

The Wooden Shoes mounted a rally with single runs in the fourth and fifth but fell short.

The Hatchets banged out 11 hits in the contest led by Ella Kinkelaar with two singles, a double and two RBI, Maddy Pfeiffer with two singles and an RBI and Karlie Bean and Natalie Hayes with two singles each.

Bean was the winning pitcher, throwing a nine-hitter with one walk and five strikeouts.

The Wooden Shoes were led by Kaylee Niebrugge with two singles and an RBI.

At Teutopolis

South Central blanked Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 5-0 in Monday action.

The Cougars tallied a run in the second, then tacked on another run in the sixth and finished off with three in the seventh.

Sydnee Garrett threw a two-hitter for the win on the mound.

South Central had six hits led by Halle Smith with a single, home run and two RBI and Taegan Webster with a triple and an RBI.

CHBC was led by Cherry and Heckert with a single each.

The Cougars improve to 1-0 in the National Trail Conference, 4-2 overall.

Newton edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead but trailed Oblong 4-1 in the top of the third. In the bottom of the frame, the Eagles tied the score then had a four-run fourth and finished out with a seven-run sixth to end the game via the 10-run rule, 15-5 Monday.

The Eagles were led by A. Russell with a double, triple, home run and seven RBI and K. Kocher with three singles and an RBI. L. Grove added a single and a double while M. Miller had a triple and an RBI, E. Kidwell a double and P. Kinder two singles.

Kocher picked up the win, going all six innings, allowing five runs on three hits, six walks and seven strikeouts.

At Newton
