EHS Claims Two Wins, Area Softball Roundup

OLNEY -- Effingham High School claimed two victories in softball competition Saturday.

The Hearts defeated Salem, 12-8 behind a 10-hit attack. EHS had three, three-run innings in the first, third and fifth around single runs in the second, fourth and sixth.

EHS had 10 hits, seven of those extra base hits. Emma Hardiek led the way with two singles, a double and an RBI while Grace Bushur had a double, triple and an RBI. Sawyer Althoff, Taylor Armstrong, Abby Cunningham and Riley Cunningham had a double each. Armstrong had two RBI while Althoff and R. Cunningham had one each. Tori Budde had a single and drove in two runs.

R. Cunningham was the winner on the mound, going six innings, allowing seven runs on five hits, seven walks and one strikeout.

In the second game, Effingham blanked Olney, 2-0, scoring both runs in the fourth inning.

The Hearts had six hits led by Bushur with a single and triple, Jacy Boatman with a single and double and Armstrong with a double.

Armstrong picked up the win, going all seven innings, allowing no runs on four hits, three walks and striking out five.

At Teutopolis

Paris blanked Teutopolis, 11-0 in five innings via the 10-run rule Saturday.

Paris scored five in the third and six in the fourth. behind nine hits

T-town had three hits in the game, all singles by Erin Althoff, Daischa Piedra and Lexi Niebrugge.

At Kinmundy

South Central downed Flora, 7-5 in Friday action.

The Cougars broke a 1-1 fourth inning tie with a five-run bottom of the fourth then added on a single run in the sixth.

Garrett, Geiler and Weber had two singles each for the winners. Smith drove in a run. Malone had a single and drove in two runs.

South Central is now 3-2 on the season.

Dieterich stepped out to a 2-0 first innngn lead but that's all the scoring the Maroons would get as Newton came back for a 12-2 win in five innings via the 10-run rule Friday.

The Eagles pounded out 10 hits in the contest led by A. Russell with a triple, home run and two RBI. J. Parr had a triple while P. Kinder and S. Dhom had two singles. L. Kessler had a double and two RBI. G. Michl had three RBI.

K. Kocher picked up the pitching win going 2.1 innings, allowing no runs on no hits, one walk and striking out six.

Dieterich was led in hitting by Westendorf with a double.
