Newton Beats EHS, C-W Downs S. Central In Softball

Despite a 4-0 lead after two innings, Effingham High School dropped a 10-8 decision to Newton in girls softball action Wednesday.

The Hearts tallied a run in the first and three in the second but Newton came right back in the top of the third to score four runs to knot the score. Newton moved ahead in the top of the fourth with a run but the Hearts scored three in the bottom of the frame to lead 7-5. EHS scored another run in the fifth to lead 8-5.

But here came the Eagles in the top of the seventh, scoring five runs for the 10-8 victory.

Newton was led it hitting by P. Kinder with a single and triple, K. Kocher with a single, double and three RBI, A. Kessler with a single, double and two RBI, J. Parr with a double and an RBI and A. Russell with a double.

EHS was led by Grace Bushur with a triple, Camryn Duncan with a double and an RBI and Emma Hardiek, Tori Budde and Daelyn Dunston with two singles each. Hardiek had an RBI.

K. Kocher went the distance on the mound allowing eight runs on eight hits, two walks while striking out five.

At Effingham

At Casey

Casey-Westfield hosted South Central and sent the Cougars home with a 6-3 loss Wednesday.

The score was knotted at 1-1 after four innings. The Warriors then had a five-run fifth inning to move ahead 6-1. South Central tallied two in the sixth but couldn't come any closer.

Casey-Westfield had eight hits in the contest led by Redman with a double, home run and an RBI, Repp with home run and two RBI, Mason and Cutright with a solo homer each and Squries with a double and an RBI.

South Cenral was led by S. Garrett with two singles and L. Webster with a double and an RBI.

The Cougars drop to 2-2 on the season and will play Flora Friday.
