St. Elmo split victories in the Vandalia Round Robin Girls Softball Tournament Saturday. The Eagles defeated host Vandalia 15-9.
St. Elmo led 6-2 after three innings then had a six-run fourth to trounce the Vandals. The Eagles banged out 16 hits in the contest led by M. Maxey with three hits and two RBI, S. Maxey with three hits and an RBI, R. Pruett with three hits including a double and Fitch with two hits.
In the second game, Woodlawn bounced St. Elmo 17-1 in five innings via the 10-run rule. M. Maxey and T. Austin had the only two hits for St. Elmo.
At Greenup
Mattoon captured two victories over Cumberland. The Green Wave won the opener 11-0 in five innings. Kacey Starwalt picked up the pitching win on a one hitter with one walk and five strikeouts. Carlen had the lone hit for the Pirates.
In the second game, Mattoon blanked Cumberland 7-0. Katelyn Fisher pitched a four-hitter with no walks and seven strikeouts. Cumberland was led by Jasie McMechan, Audrey Casey, Katie Poe and Paige Oakley with a hit each.
