OLNEY -- St. Anthony dropped its opening softball contest to Olney in action Tuesday, 5-0.
The Tigers scored all five runs in the first inning. E. Walker pitched the victory allowing two hits, one walk and striking out 11.
St. Anthony's only hits were singles by Morgan Gardewine and Kristen Schuette. Megan Woltman picked up the loss on the mound allowing eight hits, one walk and striking out nine. The Bulldogs had four errors in the contest.
Game Under Lights
St. Anthony and Teutopolis will play a Friday night game under the lights Friday, April 12.
"I talked with Rich Niebrugge (T-town coach) about having a game under the lights and he was all about it," said St. Anthony Coach Crystal Tipton. "So we are going to call it the Cross Creek Classic. There will be a traveling trophy each year. Since I have been here the team has never played under the lights. I'm hoping it will draw a bunch of fans and just have a fun competitive atmosphere.
"We're looking at concessions and possibly T-shirts. We were going to do a junior varsity game and then a varsity game but with our numbers we won't be able to field one so Rich was going to try and get someone else to come play his JV team before the start of the Classic."
