OCC Softball Team Stands at 7-2 on Season

Olney Central College women's softball team lost its first game in a spring trip to Myrtle Beach, Fla., but came back to win five in a row, heading back to Illinois with a 7-2 record.

The Knights gave up a 3-2 lead late and could only muster one run in the seventh inning to lose to King's College, Penn. 5-4. Kelsey Bowman had two solo home runs while Alicyn Woodward also hit a solo shot.

The second game of the day was against CCBC-Catonsville, Maryland, a national tournament qualifier last year. The Knights won 7-1 with Colleen Hadley picking up the pitching win. Alexis Chapman hit a solo home run.

On the second day, Knights swept Owens CC, Ohio and Delta College, Michigan. The Knights beat Owens 10-1 while pounding four home runs by Bowman with two solo shots, Sam Ledbetter with a solo homer and Altamont graduate Hailey Flexter with a three-run shot.

Delta College and OCC were tied at 1-1 entering the seventh inning Cumberland High School graduate Kendra Jansen led off with a double and scored, and Ledbetter hit a two-run homer to give the Knights a 4-1 victory. Shana Marti, another Cumberland graduate, pitched the win, striking out nine.

On the final day, the Knights played Owens and Delta again, beating Owens 9-2. Megan Robinson had two doubles in the game.

The Knights defeated Delta 3-0 in the last game. Bri Bennett got the complete game shutout. Jansen had a double to spark a two-run fifth inning.

Flexter is batting .394 this season with 13 hits, including a home run and three doubles. She has seven RBI and a .432 on-base percentage. Jansen has a .250 batting average with a single, double and an RBI. Marti has a 2-1 pitching record and a 2.21 ERA.
