Effingham Junior High School handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a 21-2 loss in five innings of softball action Monday.

The Mustangs had a 10-run second, then added on four in the third, two in the fourth and five in the fifth. Effingham banged out 14 hits in the contest while CHBC committed 10 errors.

CHBC had four hits, all singles, by Jaylyn Allen, Katlyn Arnett, Karlee Smith and Birgen Schlanser.

Jasper County had a four-run second and went on to claim an 8-2 victory over Cumberland in action Monday.

Jasper County had eight hits led by A. Mulvey and S. Mahaffey with a single and triple each. Mahaffey added an RBI. Jasper County is now 6-0 on the season.

No names were listed for Cumberland.

Altamont Junior High School fell to Shelbyville 6-4 Monday.

Grace Nelson was in the circle and had eight strikeouts in her six innings of work.

Libby Reardon led the way offensively with two hits while Nelson had a home run and Grace Lemke and Brianna Grunloh had a hit each.

"We took the lead in the top of the fifth and then took it back," said Altamont Coach Lindsay VanBlaricum. "The girls never gave up but we couldn't get two more runs across the plate in the end."

Altamont will be back in action Thursday hosting Dieterich.
