The Teutopolis Board of Education has hired longtime St. Anthony softball coach Crystal Tipton as their softball coach for the coming school year.

The action came at a special board meeting Wednesday night.

Tipton will succeed Rich Niebrugge as Teutopolis coach. Niebrugge stepped down as coach this spring after 17 seasons in the position. Tipton completed her 11th season at St. Anthony this spring, winning five regional championships in the process.

Tipton and her family have lived in Teutopolis through the years and her husband John grew up in T-Town. She said when she heard that Niebrugge was retiring, the family discussed the possibility and she decided to apply.

Of her time at St. Anthony, Tipton said, "It's been a great run." She has great memories and said it will be tough leaving the players she has been working with and those coming up through the ranks. She said, "It's not something we took lightly." She told her daughters they would now be able to ride their bikes to school with their neighbor friends.

Tipton was also hired as an elementary aide at Teutopolis.
