EHS Wins Softball Regional Opener

Effingham High School handily claimed its opening game at the Class 3A Mahomet-Seymour Softball Regional Monday.

The Hearts ran off to a 6-0 lead on Champaign Central then tallied two more in the second and three in the fifth to end the game via the 10-run rule, 11-1.

The Hearts banged out 11 hits led by Skyler Schafer with a single, double and two RBI, Emma Huss with a single, triple and three RBI, Jacy Boatman with a triple and an RBI and Carsyn Fearday with two singles and an RBI.

Jaidi Davis was the winning pitcher going 2.1 innings allowing two hits, one run, three walks and striking out six. Taylor Armstrong came on to throw 2.2 innings allowing one hit, no walks and striking out five.

In the first game of the regional, Mattoon handed Champaign Centennial an 8-3 loss.

Mattoon advances to face Charleston at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday while Effingham will meet Mahomet-Seymour at 6, weather permitting. Winners advance to regional championshp Saturday at 11 a.m.

In the Rantoul Regional, Rantoul downed Urbana 8-3. At the Taylorville Regional, Decatur MacArthur pounded Decatur Eisenhower, 16-1. In the Rochester Regional, Springfield Southeast edged Jacksonville 12-11 and Clinton trounced Springfield Lanphier 18-1.
