WSS, Neoga, St. A, S. Central Advance In NTC Softball Tourney

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, Neoga, Effingham St. Anthony and South Central picked up opening round victories in the National Trail Conference Softball Tournament Monday at Evergreen Hollow Park.
WSS blanked St. Elmo/Brownstown 10-0 in five innings. Megan Schlechte threw a two-hitter with no walks and nine strikeouts.
The Hatchets edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead and finished the game via the 10-run rule. WSS had nine hits and drew five walks.
WSS had four extra base hits led by Karlie Bean with a single, double and three RBI, M. Schlechte with a single and triple, Hannah Hayes with a triple and two RBI and Katrina Davis with a double.
SEB's hits were both singles by Cassidy Moss and Hailey Wright.
St. Anthony then picked up the victory in the second contest by a 15-0 count over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in three innings.
The Bulldogs had 11 hits led by Allie Day with a single, home run and five RBI, Jessica Coffin with a double, home run and two RBI, Katie Kabbes with a double and an RBI and Grace Hakman with two singles and an RBI.
In the third contest, Neoga edged Altamont, 7-6. Altamont held a 3-1 lead after three innings and a 4-3 lead after four. The Indians pushed that to 5-3 in the top of the sixth but Neoga tied in the bottom of the inning. Alamont moved ahead 6-5 in the top of the seventh but Neoga scored the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the frame.
Molly Sheehan had three singles and an RBI for the Indians while Makenzie Saunders had two singles and two RBI and Elizabeth Titus two singles and two RBI.
Altamont was led by Ellie McManaway with a double, triple and two RBI, Bailey Teasley with two singles, a double and an RBI and Olivia Eckardt with two singles.
The final game went to South Central over Dieterich, 7-0. The Cougars had 12 hits while Sydnee Garrett kept the Movin' Maroons off balance, allowing four hits, one walk and striking out eight.
Halle Smith had a single, two doubles and an RBI while Laney Webster had a double and an RBI, Kayli Swift two singles and two RBI and Katie Shumate two singles and an RBI. The Cougars are 15-5.
The tourney continues Wednesday with Windsor/Stew-Stras facing Neoga at 4:15 p.m. on the East Diamond, St. Elmo/Brownstown against Altamont at 4:15 p.m. on the West Diamond, St. Anthony vs. South Central at 6:15 on the East Diamond and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City taking on Dieterich at 6:15 on the West Diamond.

Shelbyville played host to Teutopolis and sent the Wooden Shoes home with a 3-0 loss Monday.
The Rams scored all three runs in the fifth. A. McCarter had two singles and J. Lewis had a double and three RBI.
T-town had two hits, a double by Leah Schumacher and Karsyn Mette with a single.
The Wooden Shoes drop to 8-8 on the season.

Paris edged Newton, 5-4 in action Monday.
The Tigers took a 3-1 first inning lead and tacked on single runs in the second and seventh. Newton tallied one in the first and tied the score at 4-4 in the fourth.
The Eagles outhit Paris 6-5 but finished with four errors. Leading Newton in hitting was Whitney Zumbahlen with two singles.

North Clay/Clay City trounced Odin in opening round play of the Midland Trail Conference Tournament Monday.
Kirstin Allen picked up the pitching win.
Malorie Craig went four-for-five with a two singles, a double, home run and five RBI. Allen had a single, double, triple and four RBI while Bre Farris had two singles, a double and three RBI. Mackenzie Golden had two singles and two RBI, Hailey Miller a single, home run and four RBI and Madison Lovett a single and four RBI for the winners.
The tournament continues today as NC/CC travels to Woodlawn to face the top-seed. In other games today, Webber Township (Bluford) travels to Cisne, Wayne City heads to Waltonville and Grayville goes to Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran. All games are 4:30 at the higher seed.
The tournament continues Wednesday and finishes out Thursday, weather permitting.

The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the second then pushed that to 6-0 in the fourth and finished out with four in the sixth.
Liberty Dunaway threw a one-hitter wiht two walks and 12 strikeouts.
The Pirates were led by Micaela Bradley with two singles and two RBI, Dunaway with a double and two RBI, Sage Carr with two singles, a double and three RBI and Allyson Maynard with a double.
