EHS, T-town, CHBC, WSS, Dieterich, Newton Are Softball Winners

Effingham High School came from behind to down Altamont 4-2 in softball competition Tuesday.
The Indians moved into a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning but it was short-lived as the Hearts tallied two in the top of the fifth and two in the sixth.
The Hearts had seven hits led by Skylar Schafer with a single, double and two RBI, Jaidi Davis with a double and an RBI and Emma Hardiek with a double.
Davis was the winning pitcher throwing a three-hitter with four walks and six strikeouts.
Altamont was led by Abby Goeckner, Tinley Mette and Olivia Eckhardt with a single each.
The Hearts are now 9-6 on the season.

At Marshall
Teutopolis banged out 14 hits and tallied an 8-2 win over Marshall in action Tuesday.
Marshall held a 2-0 lead until the third inning when the Wooden Shoes moved ahead 3-2 then added on three more in the fifth and single runs in the sixth and seventh.
The big guns were out for the Shoes as they hit a double, three triples and three home runs. Karsyn Mette had a single, triple, home run and one RBI while Allie Niebrugge had two singles, a home run and two RBI. Emma Deters contributed a two-run homer. M. Funneman had a single and triple while Lexie Niebrugge added a triple. Leah Schumacher had a single, double and an RBI and Julia Schmid a double.
The Wooden Shoes also won the junior varsity game, 12-3.
T-town evens its record at 7-7 on the season.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City scored two runs in the first inning and held on for a 2-1 National Trail Conference victory over Brownstown/St. Elmo Tuesday.
CHBC had only three hits led by Madison Cherry with a double and an RBI and Kylee Bertin and Lauren Wojcik with a single each.
Brownstown/St. Elmo had four hits, all singles by Cassidy Moss, Katelyn Maxey, Avyree Scholes and Emma Gathe.
CHBC improves to 1-5 in the conference, 1-8 overall.

At Casey
This one went into the eighth inning and finished with an exciting victory for Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg over Casey-Westfield, 5-3 Tuesday.
The Hatchets moved ahead 1-0 in the first inning and tacked on another run in the fourth. Casey-Westfield scored a run in the fifth and tied the game in the bottom of the sixth.
But WSS decided the game in the top of the eighth with three runs.
Karlie Bean had two singles for the winners while Mackenzi Tabbert had a single and drove in two runs.
Bean went 6.1 innings allowing two hits, two runs, one walk and striking out five. Megan Schlechte picked up the win, going 1.2 innings, allowing three hits, one run, one walk and striking out four.
At Casey

Dieterich broke a 2-2 tie and went on for a 9-3 win over Hutsonville/Palestine in action Tuesday.
The Movin' Maroons had only four hits but Kaitlyn Boerngen had a triple and drove in a run and Emily Bloemer had a double and an RBI. Kaitlyn Bloemer had an RBI with a single.
Jenny Robards was the winning pitcher, going the final three innings, allowing one run on two hits, no walks and striking out five.
At Dieterich

Newton took the lead in the second inning and never let up in a 4-2 win over Mount Carmel Tuesday.
The Eagles had only two hits, singles by Payton Kinder with an RBI and Whitney Zumbahlen, also with an RBI.
Kenzi Smith was the winning pitcher on a four-hitter with two walks and five strikeouts.

Tuscola ended this game in the fifth via the 10-run rule by downing Neoga, 14-4 in action Tuesday.
Tuscola had a 10-run third inning.
Neoga had eight hits in the contest but committed five errors. Makenzie Saunders had three singles and drove in two runs. Elizabeth Titus added a single and drove in two runs.
