The Millikin softball team swept a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) doubleheader over North Central College on April 20 at the Workman Family Softball Field in Decatur, Illinois. The Big Blue won game one 2-0 and took the second game 10-2 in five innings.

Game one was a pitcher’s duel between Millikin’s Rachel Patting (Rock Island, Alleman H.S.) and North Central’s Breanna Adams. Patting pitched seven innings allowing six hits and no runs with three strikeouts to improve to 8-5 on the season.

Millikin scored its two runs in the fourth inning taking advantage of a dropped third strike that opened the inning allowing Bailey Gowin (Mt. Zion, H.S.) to reach base. Gowin would later score on a Skielyr Trenkle (Le Roy, H.S.) sacrifice fly. Alyssa White (Mokena, Lincoln Way East H.S.) tripled home Millikin’s second run.

Millikin opened game two with a six run first inning. Trenkle had a two-run single in the inning and White had her second triple of the day scoring two runs. Millikin added single runs in the third, fourth and two in the fifth. Trenkle was 2-3 in the game with a triple and three RBI. White was 2-3 with a double and triple. She scored twice and drove home two. Kelsey Farmer (Mattoon, H.S.) was 2-2 with two RBI.

Aly Armstrong (Effingham, H.S.) was the winning pitcher throwing four innings allowing four hits and one run while striking out four.
