Hearts Sweep Apollo Conference Softball DH

LINCOLN -- Effingham High School swept an Apollo Conference softball doubleheader Saturday.

The Hearts won the opener 14-4 in six innings via the 10-run rule. EHS broke through a 2-2 opening inning tie with a four-run second then had a six-run fourth and finished out with two in the sixth.

EHS had 11 hits and was aided by seven Lincoln errors. The Hearts were led by three Emmas in the hitting department. Emma Hardiek had a single, double and two RBI, Emma Huss a single, double and one RBI and Emily Budde a double and an RBI.

Taylor Armstrong went the distance on the mound allowing four runs on four hits, two walks and striking out two.

In the second contest, Effingham grabbed a 13-5 victory. The Hearts led 3-0 through the first four innings then added on two runs in the fifth and sixth innings and six in the sevneth.

Lauryn Douthit had two doubles and drove in a run for the Hearts while Budde had three singles and four RBI, Morgan Krouse a single, double and two RBI, Carsyn Fearday a double and three RBI, Skylar Schafer a single, double and an RBI and Hardiek a single, double and two RBI.

Jaidi Davis went six innings, allowing five runs on six hits, five walks and striking out seven. Jaelyn Boone pitched the final inning, allowing no runs, two hits, one walk and striking out one.

In  Friday action, the Hearts fell to Nokomis in a 5-4 decision. The two teams were tied at 1-1 in the first. EHS moved head 4-1 in the third inning but Nokomis came back with four runs in the fourth.

EHS had only four hits led by Hardiek with a double.

The Hearts are 4-2 in the conference, 7-6 overall.
