Battle Of Unbeatens Ends in WSS Favor

CHARLESTON -- It was a battle of the unbeatens as Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg squared off aganist Charleston in softball action Wednesday at Eastern Illinois University's Williams Field.

 

The Hatchets edged out to the early lead, scoring a run in the first inning. WSS then tacked on two more in the third and finished out with three in the sixth.

Charleston rumbled with two runs in the top of the seventh but Megan Schlechte toughened up and finished the game strong. She allowed six hits, one walk and struck out four while keeping the Trojans off balance.

The Class 1A defending state champions banged out 10 hits in the contest led by Mackenzi Tabbert with a single, double and two RBI, Maddy Pfeiffer with a double and an RBI, M. Schlechte with two singles and two RBI and Hannah Hayes with two singles.

Charleston finished with six hits that included two singles each by Reghan McGahey and Emily Price and a double by Ava Stephens. The Trojans suffered their first loss to drop to 14-1 on the season.

The Hatchets improved to 18-0-1 on the season and return to action today, weather-permitting, with a game at Teutopolis.

At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the second and tacked on a final run in the sixth for a 4-2 win over Ramsey Wednesday.

BSE overcame five errors with seven hits. Katelyn Maxey had two doubles while Avyree Scholes had two singles and drove in two runs. Emma Gathe had an RBI single.

Natalie Oberlink went seven innings allowing four hits, two runs, no walks and struck out six.

In a makeup contest, Altamont downed BSE, 15-3 behind a 14-hit attack.

The Indians stepped out to a 4-0 lead in the third inning and finished out with a seven-run seventh.

Abby Goeckner led the way for the Indians with two singles, a triple and two RBI. Ellie McManaway had a single and double while Caitlyn White added a single, triple and an RBI. Olivia Williams and Olivia Eckhardt added a double each.

The Eagles were led by Natalie Oberlink with a single, double and an RBI and Hailey Wright with a double and an RBI
