Bulldogs, Shoes, Indians, Cougars Win In Softball

Liz Day came to the plate and hit a walkoff single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Effingham St. Anthony a 2-1 win over Newton in high school softball action Tuesday. She hit the single with two outs.
L. Day finished with two singles and an RBI while Allie Day had two singles. The Bulldogs had six hits in the contest while A. Day held Newton to three hits, three walks and struck out six.
St. Anthony took a 1-0 lead in the first and Newton tied in the third.
The win was Bulldogs Coach Crystal Tipton's 200th career victory with St. Anthony.
Amber Russell led the Eagles with a double. Kenzi Smith picked up the tough-luck loss going 7.2 innings, allowing six hits, four walks and striking out four.

At Teutopolis
Teutopolis edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead and went on to end the game against Dieterich in five innings via the 10-run rule, 11-0.
A. Brumleve went four innings allowing no hits, no walks and striking out seven to pick up the victory. A. Niebrugge came on in relief to throw one inning, allowing one hit.
T-town, meanwhile, banged out 12 hits led by A. Bloemer with a double, S. Gebben with two singles and two RBI and A. Brumleve and K. Mette with two singles and an RBI each. Five other players had a single each.
Dieterich's lone hit came from Molly Niemerg with a single.
The Wooden Shoes improve to 4-4 on the season. T-town also claimed the junior varsity contest, 12-2.

At Ramsey
Altamont improved to 4-6 on the season with a 7-3 victory over Ramsey in action Tuesday.
Ramsey took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Altamont tied in the top of the fourth but Ramsey moved ahead in the bottom of the frame. The Indians then tallied three runs in the fifth and three in the sixth for the win.
The Indians had their hitting shoes on with 11 hits that included a single, double and an RBI by Tinley Mette, two singles and three RBI from Caitlyn White and Abby Goeckner with two singles and an RBI.
Altamont is back in action today at St. Elmo/Brownstown in a 6:30 p.m. contest.

South Central didn't waste any time, ripping out to a 5-1 first inning lead and went on to beat St. Elmo/Brownstown, 15-3 in five innings Tuesday.
The Cougars had 13 hits with Kayli Swift hitting a single, double, triple and driving in five runs while Sydnee Garrett garnered a single, double, triple and an RBI. Katie Shumate added two singles and two RBI.
South Central improves to 3-2 in the National Trail Conference, 8-2 overall.
