Bulldogs, Pirates Lose In Softball Action

It was a tough loss to suffer. Effingham St. Anthony High School has been sailing through the softball season easily picking up nine straight victories. But the seas got rough Wednesday as the two unbeaten teams clashed.
Charleston stepped out to a 4-0 second inning lead then pushed that to 7-0 in the third, tallied single runs in the fourth and fifth and finished out with three in the sixth to end the game with a 12-1 victory.
The Trojans banged out 14 hits in the contest led by Ava Stephens with three singles ,a home run and three RBI. Bailey Cox and Macey McElravy had a double each. McElravy finished with two RBI and Cox one.
Emily Price gave up only two hits to the Bulldogs while walking four and striking out two.
The Bulldogs' lone hits came off the bats of Grace Karolewicz with a double and Allie Day with a single. Katie Kabbes had an RBI.
Charleston improved to to 10-0 on the season while St. Anthony dropped to 9-1.

At Neoga
Neoga handed Ramsey a 13-7 loss in action Wednesday.
The Indians edged out to a 2-1 first inning lead before Ramsey tied in the third. Ramsey actually pushed the lead to 7-4 in the top of the fifth but Neoga had other ideas. The Indians brought home nine runs in the bottom of the inning and that was the game.
Avery Fearday had two singles, a double and an RBI while Makenzie Saunders hit a home run and had two RBI.

At Oblong
Cumberland claimed a little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division victory over Oblong Wednesday, 7-5.
Oblong held a 1-0 lead after the first inning then went ahead 2-0 in the fourth and held a 5-2 lead going into the seventh.
The Pirates tied the game in the top of the seventh sending it into extra innings. Cumberland then tallied two runs in the top of the eighth to put a W in the win column.
Jazzmine Oakley had four singles, a double and an RBI for the winners while Allyson Maynard had a single, double and two RBI, Micaela Bradley, a single and double, Sadie Oakley three singles and Destiny Williams two singles and an RBI.
Cumberland is now 1-1 in the conference and 6-3 overall.
