UIS Appearing in Super Softball Regional

SPRINGFIELD, IL – The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) softball team squares off with the University of Southern Indiana in the NCAA Division II Midwest Super-Regional, which will be held May 17-18 at the Land of Lincoln Softball Complex.
UIS is 40-17 on the season and will appear in its first super regional in school history. The squad captured the regional championship with 5-3 and 4-1 victories over Missouri-St. Louis.
The University of Southeran Indiana won the Great Lakes Valley Conference while UIS was the regular season champion. game one is scheduled for Thursday at 1:30 p.m. and game two is Friday at noon while game three is at 2:30 p.m. Friday, if necessary.
The winner moves into the World Series in Salem, Virginia.
A local member of the UIS softball team is Hunter Niebrugge, a sophomore, who has been sidelined this season with injury. The St. Anthony graduate appeared in 26 games her freshman year with 22 of those in the starting position as catcher. She was a four-year letterwinner for the Bulldogs in softball and basketball.
