Teutopolis defeated St. Anthony 12-2 in a five-inning contest to win the 2018 Cross Creek Classic. The softball contest at Evergreen Hollow Park was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com

Teutopolis jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning. St. Anthony starter Jessica Coffin is battling injury and it affected her control. Marianna Hemmen led off the game for Teutopolis with a single, but Coffin retired the next two batters before walking Lauren Hemmen, Emma Deters and Emma Beckman in succession and then hitting Julia Schmid. That made it 2-0 before the big hit of the game. Shoes centerfielder Sadie Bueker ripped a grand slam home run to left to make it 6-0. After Allie Niebrugge singled, Bulldogs coach Crystal Tipton pulled Coffin and moved first baseman Allie Day to the circle. She retired the next batter to end the inning, but the damage was done.

Teutopolis added a run in the second on a single, a fielder's choice and an error that allowed Lauren Hemmen to score. Two more runs scored in the third when Schmid doubled, Bueker reached on an error, Allie Niebrugge singled and Alli Brumleve singled.

St. Anthony was able to generate some offense in the third when Grace Hakman singled and Karlee Roepke homered to get the Bulldogs on the board.

Teutopolis scored three times in the fifth to win the game on a walk to Niebrugge, a single by Marianna Hemmen, a single by Karsyn Mette to make it 10-2 and an error that brought home the final two runs.

Alli Brumleve went the full five innings for Teutopolis, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out six.

Coffin was charged with all six first inning runs on just two hits but four walks, a hit batsman and three wild pitches. She did strike out a batter. Allie Day went the final 4-1/3 innings, giving up six runs but just one earned on seven hits and two walks while fanning two.
