WSS Downs St. Anthony, Softball Roundup

Calla Roney led the way for Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, not only on the mound but at-bat as well.  Roney threw a two-hitter, allowing two walks and striking out nine as the Hatchets handed Effingham St. Anthony an 8-1 National Trail Conference softball loss Thursday.

Roney also had two singles and drove in two runs for the Hatchets.

WSS edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead then pounded home five runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth.

Carson Cole chipped in with two singles and scored two runs while Hannah Hayes had a single, double and two RBI and scored a run.

St. Anthony had two hits, both singles by Karlee Roepke and Allie Day. Katie Kabbes scored the lone run for the Bulldogs.

WSS improved to 13-2 overall.

At Cowden

St. Elmo/Brownstown picked up a National Trail Conference victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 11-7 Thursday.

SEB edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead then had a three-run third and tallied four in the fifth.

The winners banged out 14 hits in the contest and were aided by four CHBC errors. Katelyn Maxey had a single, double and drove in three runs while Natalie Oberlink had two singles and two RBI. Ayvree Scholes had three singles and an RBI and Emma Gathe had two singles and two RBI.

CHBC had eight hits led by Claire Gardner with two singles and an RBI and Mykaela Dye with a single and two RBI. The Bobcats dropped to 1-5 in the NTC, 1-8 overall.

Teutopolis had a five-run second and went on to beat Neoga 11-3 in action Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes had 12 hits in the contest led by Emma Deters and Julia Schmid with two singles, a double and an RBI each. Caroline Beckman chipped in with a single, triple and two RBI and Karsyn Mette had a single, double and three RBI.

Neoga was led by Elizabeth Titus with a single, double and triple and Kelsey Partlow with a double. The Indians drop to 5-7 on the season.

T-town improves its record to 7-4.

Dieterich picked up an 18-8 win over Ramsey in action Thursday.

The Movin' Maroons quickly stepped out to a 3-0 opening inning lead then had a seven-run second and eventually finished the game in the fifth via the 10-run rule.

Bierman led Dieterich with a double, home run and three RBI while Bloemer had three singles, a double and an RBI. Poe added a single, double and two RBI.

Cumberland had a 10-run second and ended the game in the third inning with a 15-0 victory over Hutsonville/Palestine.

The Pirates had 14 hits while Liberty Dunaway threw a one-hitter with one walk and six strikeouts.

Madison Hendrix hit a single, home run and drove in four runs. Dunaway had two singles, a double and two RBI while Danae Sowers had two singles, a double and four RBI.

The Pirates are 10-6 on the season.
