Neoga Edges South Central in Softball

NEOGA -- Neoga High School edged South Central 12-11 in softball action Wednesday.
The Indians stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead but South Central came back with five in the top of the second. Neoga then took a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the frame. Neoga held a 10-7 lead in the fifth. The Cougars then rallied to lead 11-10 going into the final inning.
That's when Neoga struck again, this time without getting a hit or a ball out of the infield and won it 12-11. South Central finished with six errors, several coming in that final inning rally by Neoga. An error and a walk-off run by Molly Sheehan won it for the Indians.
"We are making too many errors on defense and some base running mistakes have hurt us in those games we lost," said South Central Coach Gary Kapper. "We just have to work on being mentally ready in those areas for each situation. The girls continue to work hard and will improve."
South Central was led by Serina Lee with a single, double and four RBI. Katlyn Hilmes, Angelica Rivera and Lexie Reid had two singles each. Hilmes and Reid had two RBI each. Jordan Geiler had a double and an RBI.
The Cougars drop to 3-4 in the National Trail Conference, 5-4 overall.
Neoga's Elizabeth Titus led the way with a single, double and an RBI. Jessica Atwell, Audrey Ramert and Andrea Estay added two singles and an RBI each. Kelsey Partlow added two singles.

At Charleston
Charleston played host to Altamont and sent the Indians home with a 12-1 loss in five innings Wednesday.
The Trojans took a 5-0 first inning lead and neverl ooked back. The homestanders had 12 hits and was aided by four Altamont errors.
Altamont had two hits, singles by Tinley Mette and Katie Grimsley. The Indians drop to 4-6 on the season.

Cumberland pounded Broadlands Heritage, 15-0 in four innings Wednesday.
The Pirates took a 3-0 first inning lead, tallied five in the second, six in the third and one in the fourth.
Cumberland had 13 hits led by Liberty Dunaway with three singles and three RBI, Madison Hendrix with two singles and two RBI, Micaela Bradley with two singles and two RBI, Sadie Oakley added a double and two RBI.
