WSS, Cumberland Nab Softball Victories

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg High School opened the softball season with a 7-4 victory over Moweaqua Central A&M Tuesday.

The Hatchets set the stage early with a two-run first and a two-run second.

Despite being outhit by a 10-5 count, the Hatchets' Megan Schlechte and Carson Cole were responsible for two RBI each. Schlechte had a triple while Cole had a single. Calla Roney added two singles.

Roney was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings, allowing 10 hits, one walk and striking out 12.

At Shelbyville

Cumberland blanked Shelbyville 4-0 in action Tuesday.

The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, then tacked on their second run in the fifth and finished out with two in the seventh.

Cumberland had six hits in the contest led by Micaela Bradley with a double and triple and Danae Sowers with two RBI.

Liberty Dunaway picked up the pitching win, going seven innings, striking out two and walking three.

Marshall pounded Dieterich, 14-0 in a game that went four and a half innings Tuesday.

The Runnin' Lions opened with a four-run first, then tacked on three in the second, five in the third and two in the fourth.

Mary Clark threw the no-hitter, allowing one walk while striking out 11.

St. Elmo/Brownstown dropped a five-inning contest to Flora, 17-3 in action Tuesday.

Flora edged out to a 3-2 opening inning lead then moved ahead 4-2 in the second, had a six-run third and a seven-run fourth.

SEB had three hits, singles by Makenzie Parkison, Cassidy Moss and Natalie Oberlink,.
