Effingham High School senior Aly Armstrong barely had time to celebrate the Effingham Lady Hearts basketball team winning the Apollo Conference championship before she was headed to EHS for a college softball signing ceremony.

Armstrong, a starter on the Lady Hearts team that knocked off Charleston and Lincoln this week to clinch the championship, signed her national letter of intent Friday afternoon to pitch for the Millikin Big Blue.

Aly said she filled out a form sharing information with the university and that university officials were very responsive, attending her sectional game last season and setting up a campus tour and that impressed her. Once she got to campus, she said she fell in love with it. She plans to study Business at Millikin, but doesn't yet know what form that will take.

Aly hasn't had talked with the Millkin coaching staff as to what they want her to work on in advance of heading to campus this fall, but is ready to go to work. She said she's taking the summer off from playing on a softball team to get ready for her Millikin career.

In the meantime, Aly is getting ready for her senior season for EHS. She acknowledged the losses due to graduation experienced by the Hearts, but feels this year's squad can achieve similar success to last year's team.

Now, time to get ready for the Rantoul 3A basketball regional next week. Aly and the Lady Hearts will see their first post-season action this Wednesday.
