SULLIVAN -- Effingham St. Anthony banged out 15 hits and brought home 17 runs in a 17-4 win over Sullivan in girls softball action Tuesday.

The Bullpups took a 4-0 second inning lead then had a seven-run third and scored three runs in the fourth and fifth innings for the win in five innings.

Rios had two singles, a triple and two RBI for the Bullpups while Fearday had three singles and four RBI. Niebrugge and Faber had two singles and an RBI each. Karolewicz and Rothrock added a double each.

Fearday was the winning pitcher on a four-hitter with two walks and nine strikeouts.

At Shelbyville

Effingham edged  Shelbyville 5-4 in action Tuesday.

Shelbyville took a 1-0 first inning lead but the Mustangs tied in the top of the third. Shelbyville came back with a run in the bottom of the frame to lead 2-1. Effingham then had a three-run fourth and tallied a final run in the top of the seventh. Shelbyville made a comeback bid with two in the bottom of the inning but couldn't get over the hump.

The Mustangs had seven hits led by Budde with two singles and an RBI and Duncan with a triple.

Beck threw a four-hitter with three walks and seven strikeouts.

In action Saturday, Effingham pounded Cumberland 13-3.

The Mustangs stand at 8-1 on the season.

At Cowden

Mulberry Grove rallied to score three runs in the seventh and pull out an 11-9 victory over host Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tuesday.

The score was tied at 2-2 after three innings. Mulberry Grove moved ahead 3-2 in the fourth. CHBC tallied five runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to lead 9-8. Mulberry Grove then rallied.

Tatyana Duckwitz had a double and an RBI for CHBC while Gracie Heckert had two singles and an RBI.

At Cowden

At Kinmundy

South Central edged Sandoval 6-5 in action Tuesday.

South Central took a 3-0 first inning lead but Sandoval tied in the third. South Central moved ahead in the fifth but, once again, Sandoval tied the score. In the bottom of the seventh, Halle Smith led off wth a double then moved to third on a Lily Malone ground out to shortstop, beatng the throw to third. With one out, Cecilia Rivera grounded to the second baseman who threw to first to get the second out. Smith then slid into home beating the throw from first to the catcher to score the winning run.

Smith had two doubles and an RBI while Malone had a single double and three RBI. Laney Weber added a triple and Taegan Webster two singles.

South Central is 6-0.

Teutopolis beat Jasper County 5-4 with a comeback win, not scoring until the sixth inning.

Jasper County led through the first five innings. Neither team had very many hits.

T-town is now 12-0 on the season.
