Effingham Junior High School claimed a 12-7 win over Mattoon in softball action Tuesday.

Mattoon took a 2-1 first inning lead and led 4-2 after three and 7-4 after five. Effingham then rallied with a seven-run sixth and a run in the seventh.

The Mustangs had 10 hits led by A. Cunningham with a single, double and three RBI, Bushur with three singles and an RBI, Althoff with two singles and Budde a triple and an RBI.

Beck picked up the pitching win, going all seven innings, allowing six hits, nine walks and striking out seven.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony pounded Shelbyville 16-4 in six innings Tuesday.

The Bullpups took a 2-1 first inning lead then led 9-1 after five and finished out with a seven-run sixth.

Fearday banged out two home runs and finished with eight RBI. Rothrock had a home run and three RBI. Hakman added two singles and an RBI.

Fearday threw a three-hitter with one walk and 11 strikeouts.

At St. Anthony

Cumberland came calling and claimed a 16-0 win over Altamont in three innings. Cumberland took an 8-0 first inning lead.

Cumberland had two hits, singles by Matteson and Tolen. Altamont had one hit, a single by Berg.

Altamont drops to 0-7.

At Cowden

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took a 14-4 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

WSS stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and led 7-0 after three. Hayes had a single, double and triple for the winners. Bean had a triple and three RBI.

CHBC was led by Gracie Heckert with two singles.

South Central stepped out to a 6-0 first inning lead and went on for a 14-3 win over Raccoon.

The Falcons had 11 hits led by Laney Webster with a single, home run and an RBI and Macey Potter with a single, triple and three RBI. Cecilia Rivera and Hallie Smith had a double each. Rivera added an RBI.

Taegan Webster picked up the pitching win, going two innings, allowing no runs, no hits, one walk and striking out five.

South Central is now 3-0.
