TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis took a 1-0 first inning lead, then tacked on three runs in the third against Effingham. The Mustangs came back with two in the fifth and one in the sixth but fell short as the Shoes took a 4-3 junior high softball victory Thursday.
The Shoes' scored in the first when Emily Konkel was hit by a pitch. She advanced to third on two passed balls. Tia Probst put the ball in play scoring Konkel.
In the third, Konkel again led off, this time with a walk. Isabelle Hemmen had a sacrifice bunt for a hit. Konkel scored from second in a hit-and-run situation. Konkel was safe at the plate and Hemmen's speed took her to third. Probst then had a single, scoring Hemmen. Jaden Deters had a hit scoring Probst.
The Mustangs had three base hits in the fifth scoring their two runs. Bushur had a leadoff double in the top of the sixth for Effingham. An error allowed Effingham runners to reach second and third. Then a base hit by A. Cunningham scored the lone run.
Probst went the distance for T-town throwing a four-hitter with one walk and five strikeouts. Beck picked up the pitching loss, allowing three hits, four walks and striking out five.
T-town's hits were two singles by Probst.
Effingham was led by Bushur with a single and double.

At Altamont
Okaw Valley came calling and handed Altamont a 19-5 loss in five innings Thursday.
Okaw Valley edged out to a 4-3 opening inning lead then led 6-4 after two. Okaw Valley broke the game wide open with nine runs in the third and tacked on four more in the fifth.
Altamont was led by Tedrick with two singles, a double and an RBI. Altamont drops to 0-2.
