T-town Junior High Claims T-town Softball Invite

TOLEDO -- Teutopolis Junior High School claimed the championship of the Cumberland Softball Tournament at Legion Field Saturday.

In the opener, Cumberland defeated Windsor.

In the second contest, T-town edged Martinsville 2-1. Tia Probst picked up the pitching win with nine  strikeouts including six in row through the fourth and fifth innings.

Martinsville took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. In the fourth, T-town tied the score on a passed ball drawn by Abigail Wortman. Josie Drees, the designated runner for Tia Probst who had a base hit early in the top of the fourth, scored. Probst struck out all batters in the top of the fifth.  Emily Konkel led off the fifth with an in-the-park home run to the fence.

T-town and Cumberland then squared off for the championship.

T-town scored in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead but Cumberland back back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame.

In the third inning, Drees and Konkel drew walks and both advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Isabelle Hemmen. With the bases loaded and no outs, Cumberland managed to get the next two batters out. Seventh-grade catcher Danielle Sarchet hit a triple down the third base line scoring three runs and putting T-town in the lead.

The fifth inning almost ended due to time, but was extended to one more inning with one minute left to play.  The sixth inning brought  T-town two more runs scoring Hemmen and Isabella Hardiek after they both had consecutive base hits. Daischa Peidra followed with an additional base hit to score Hardiek and the final tally was an 8-3 victory for the Shoes.

Konkel was the starting pitcher and completed the game for a win.
