Effingham Express Care Nabs Girls Junior Tourney Title

Effingham Express Care claimed the championship of the Girls Junior Softball League Tournament Wednesday evening at Evergreen Hollow Park.

In the opening contest, J&R Collision Center trounced Walk's Auto Body 21-2. J&R had five-run innings in the first three then finished off with six in the fourth for the winning margin.

Mackenzie Koester hit a three-run homer in the second for the winners. Meredith Schafer had a single, double and an RBI while Andrea Bierman added two singles.

Kaylee Thompson had a double for Walk's.

The win pushed J&R Collision into a meeting with Effingham Express Care. The two teams were tied at 2-2 after the first inning. Express Care then tallied a run in the second. J&R tied in the top of the sixth but Express Care came back with the winning run in the bottom of the frame, 4-3.

Express Care had six hits led by Ali Day and Gracie Hibbits with a triple each and Liz Day with a double and two RBI.

Madi Stortzum led J&R with two singles, a home run and an RBI. Kieya Goering had a double while Megan Bierman added two singles and an RBI.
