Pirates Beat Indians In Softball Regional

TOLEDO -- Cumberland High School captured the championship game of its own Class 1A Softball Regional Thursday with a 6-3 win over Neoga.

The Pirates stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead. Neoga tallied a run in the second but Cumberland came back with a run to lead 4-1 in the third and 5-1 in the sixth. Neoga scored two more in the top of the sixth and the Pirates finished out with a run in the bottom of the frame.

Libby Dunaway pushed her pitching record to 17-6, going all seven innings, allowing four hits, two walks and striking out five.

Sadie Oakley had two singles and three RBI for the winners while Madison Hendrix had a double and Claire Guyon two singles and an RBI.

Neoga was led by Jessica Atwell with a double and an RBI. The Indians end the season with an 11-12 record.

Cumberland advances with a 17-6 record to the Bethany Okaw Valley Sectional Wednesday, May 24 against the winner of the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Regional which was the host squad at 4:30 p.m.

At Toledo

At Woodlawn

Woodlawn won its own Class 1A Regional by pounding South Central 15-0.

Woodlawn advances to the Marissa Sectional Wednesday, May 24 against the winner of the Lebanon Regional.

 

At Teutopolis

Flora defeated Robinson 5-4 to win the Class 2A Teutopolis Regional Thursday.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 in the fourth. Flora took a 4-1 lead in the fifth but Robinson tied in the sixth. The Wolves scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Flora advances to face Macon Meridian Wednesday, May 24 at 4:30 p.m. in its own sectional.
