South Central Heads To Title Game, T-town Softball Season Ends

WOODLAWN -- South Central handed Clay City a 12-7 loss to move into the championship game of the Class 1A Woodlawn Softball Regional Wednesday.

The Cougars and Wolves were tied at 2-2 after the first inning but South Central moved ahead with two in the second. Clay City came back with a single run in the third and fourth to tie the score at 4-4. But South Central broke loose with two in the fifth and sixth and four in the seventh.

Katlyn Hilmes threw the nine-hitter for the pitching win.

Sidney Wilkins had a single, two doubles and an RBI while Serina Lee had two singles, a home run and five RBI. Angelica Rivera had a single, home run and two RBI and Harlee Brown had a single, triple and an RBI. Katie Shumate and Alannah Sigrist chipped in with two singles each.

"The girls played awesome tonight all the way around," said South Central Coach Gary Kapper. "We hit the ball hard and our defense made some good plays. Katlyn pitched well. She put it in there and our defense played behind her. It was a great team effort."

The Cougars are now 4-15 and will square off against Woodlawn in a 4:30 p.m. contest today for the championship. The game has been moved from Saturday to today because of the weather forecast.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis saw its season come to a close in its own Class 2A Regional Wednesday.

The Wooden Shoes fell to Robinson 4-1. Robinson broke a 1-1 tie after the first with two runs in the fourth and tacked on a final run in the fifth.

T-town outhit Robinson 9-6. Bueker had a double while R. Drees and M. Hemmen had two singles each. The Shoes end the season with a 7-17 record.

Robinson advances to face Flora today at 4:30 p.m. in a game that was moved from Saturday because of the weather forecast.

Casey-Westfield advanced to the championship of its own Class 2A Regional with a 12-3 win over Newton Wednesday.

The Warriors held a 4-0 first inning lead and led 6-1 after three. Casey-Westfield finished off with a five-run seventh.

Casey-Westfield banged out 16 hits in the contest.

Newton was led by Shipman with a double.
