Hearts Claim Softball Win Over Rams, 8-3

MOUNT VERNON -- It was a quiet game through the first three innings before Effingham High School broke loose for three runs and went on to beat host Mount Vernon 8-3 in softball action Tuesday.
The Hearts tacked on another run in the fifth then brought home four runs in the seventh.
EHS banged out 11 hits in the game as Armstrong had two singles, a home run and two RBI, Douthit a single, home run and three RBI, Wright a triple, home run and two RBI and Fearday two singles.
Armstrong picked up the pitching win, going all seven innings, allowing four hits, two walks and striking out nine.
The Hearts will host Salem today at 4:30 p.m. and then finish out regular season play Thursday at Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin.
