Dieterich Wins, CHBC Loses in Regional Softball Openers

DIETERICH -- Dieterich High School took the early lead and went on to down Martinsville 10-5 in the opening game of the Class 1A Cumberland Softball Regional.

The Movin' Maroons held a 2-0 first inning lead and led 5-1 after two. But Martinsville came back to tie the score in the top of the third. Dieterich then tallied one in the fourth and four in the fifth.

Dieterich banged out a whopping 19 hits in the contest led by Klay with three singles, a double and an RBI, Vahling with two singles, a double and three RBI, Niemerg with two singles and a double, Bierman with a single, double, triple and an RBI and Bannick with two doubles. Bloemer added a single and double.

Dieterich now advances to face Cumberland at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday followed by St. Anthony against Neoga at 6;30.

At Cowden

Ramsey came calling and claimed an 8-6 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in the Class 1A Altamont Regional Monday.

Ramsey took a 4-2 opening inning lead then tallied single runs in the third and fourth and two in the seventh. CHBC had four runs in the fifth.

CHBC was led by Kirchhofer with a home run and two RBI.

Ramsey advances to face Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. In the second contest, Altamont meets Brownstown/St. Elmo at 6:30.

Class 1A Woodlawn Regional

Webber Township (Bluford) defeated Cisne 9-3 in the first game of the Woodlawn Regional.

Webber Township now meets Woodlawn at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Class 2A Casey-Westfield Regional

Marshall pounded Paris in the opening game of the Casey-Westfield Regional, 17-6.

Marshall will now meet Tuscola at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
